Movie Review: Thor – Ragnarok
December 3, 2017
I really wanted to go see Thor: Ragnarok.
Let’s face it, the preview was impressive, wasn’t it? It looked action packed and funny and just wonderful.
The movie was just what they advertised, except… well, I knew most of what was going to happen from the previews, which made the movie not that interesting at times.
I read someplace that the movie was all over the place. It was. I agree with that. It seemed like I was watching two different movies, and even when it all came together in the end, for most of the time I didn’t really feel a sense of urgency for Thor and Co. to get back and rescue Asgard. In fact, there was no way for them to know what was really going on (Except for Idris Elba, but that just happened once).
I enjoyed the interaction between the characters and particularly liked that the two women (although stereotypically sexy), were strong characters who didn’t care about what men thought. Just recently I was watching a speech by Reese Witherspoon where she mentions that scripts written by men usually have the women say “What do we do now?” at some point in the movie. This happened in this movie, unfortunately. But even with that, I enjoyed the female characters a lot.
Then there was Loki, who in Thor 1 and Avengers was my ultra favorite character. Even when Tom Hiddleston is still great, I didn’t cheer for Loki like I did in the past. There was something missing with him.
The part with Dr. Strange was cute, too. I enjoyed that a lot.
It seems the movie had a bunch of cute, enjoyable scenes, but nothing to really put it together like the first Thor movie, for example.
Overall, I did like the movie. I don’t think Rotten Tomatoes is quite right with their 92%, but it’s easily over 70% in my opinion.
Would I watch it again? Probably not, but it was a great ride and it was totally worth a movie ticket!
cheers!
Common Sense Media recommends this movie for children 12 and up.
