#TBT Movie Review: Elf

There are three movies we watch every holiday season, and one of them is Elf.  Apparently we’re not so special because I have heard many families go crazy about Elf; not only that, they’ve seen it so many times they know the dialogue. We are not that crazy about it, but we like it and watch it once every Christmas season all the same.

This year was no different, although we watched it in parts mainly because our kids’ school district didn’t end classes until December 22nd, so it was getting late to watch Elf in time for Christmas. My husband decided he would play 10 minutes of the movie each morning that last week of school while the kids had breakfast and then we finished it between Friday and Saturday before Christmas Eve. We also had our little nieces (3 & 5yo’s) with us for a visit and they didn’t have the attention span to watch Elf like our kids…

Elf is a movie about Buddy, a human baby who gets taken in Santa’s toy bag and taken to the North Pole where he’s raised as an Elf. He then grows up and decides he wants to find his real family and walks (yep, mostly walking) from the North Pole to NYC. The movie is filled with Christmas Spirit and the message to spend more time with family, friends and the people we love… all while buddy does really stupid things all around town that make us laugh (like when he jumps to the tree to try to put the star on top and the tree falls on top of him, sigh).

The kids love this movie and I can see it continuing it’s tradition of being in our home once a year.

cheers!

Common Sense Media recommends this movie for children 7 and up.
