Movie Review: Black Panther

We all went to watch Black Panther yesterday. My husband and I had heard great things and we took the children as soon as our schedule opened up.

It was not only a good movie because it had action and was entertaining, it was also a good movie because it had awesome characters and plot. It made me think. In fact, all through the movie I kept thinking on possible solutions to their greatest problem: What to do with the great technological knowledge they possessed?

On one hand, I could understand how they should keep it to themselves. Prosper and have happy, productive lives following their traditions and enjoying this great technology and advances. I could understand how, if they chose to share it, many would attack them, steal from them and kill their own to get what they had; this valuable metal and what they had discovered they could do with it.

Not only weapons, but the medical advances and other technology as well. People with power would not just sit idle as they waited for Wakanda to choose to benefit them, they would most probably do something about it. Besides, the metal is not infinite, which meant people in the world would still fight for it (Like the spice, in Dune, comes to mind).

And yet, I can also understand why they should share their technology. There are people who need it, regardless of their position of power. I can understand how they are being selfish in a way by keeping it to themselves. Or afraid. I would be, too.

Just for that it was an extraordinary movie to me.

But, that wasn’t all…. THE WOMEN!

The women were strong, fighters, intelligent, and appear to have a moral compass that surpassed that of the men. Men doubted, they yearned to have power and appeared to be confused as to what the right thing. The women, on the other hand, were powerful and determined. They took action and weren’t afraid to follow what they believed was right. They were intelligent and resourceful. How I loved these women. An example to follow, at least to me.

And yes, there were these wonderful action scenes. They were truly breathtaking.

It was all just so great.

cheers!
