Disney Cruise Alaska Review: Day 7 – At Sea
August 21, 2019
LAST ONBOARD ACTIVITIES
The last day on the Disney Wonder was spent at sea. Since we were trapped inside the boat, we needed to figure out what we were spending our last day doing. The characters were dressed in their sailor suits for pictures, but I didn’t get any pictures with them and my family. Although I enjoy taking pictures with them, the rest of my family aren’t fans of standing in line to take a picture. Go figure.
There were different activities on board. Some of them were family activities that worked like TV game shows. Since there weren’t any excursions that day, most of them were packed. We had seen several scavenger hunts listed on our Cruise app on the other days and we decided to join the one on that last day at sea.
We met at the lounge and a crew member gave us a laminated card with a riddle. The answer to the riddle was a spot in the ship. By then, we had explored the ship a bit and had a good idea of where to find the answers to the riddles. Although, we could tell there were other parties on board who had done it before and got ahead of us easily in finding their answers.
For this scavenger hunt, the idea was that one family member stayed in the lounge area with the room phone (pictured below), and the rest of the party traveled the ship for answers. We would then call each other with the answers and the next question.
We hadn’t used the room phones at all, so we struggled a bit to learn how to use them (better late than ever). If your kids are younger and they stay in the kids’ clubs, then they ask you to take the phone with you to call you if something happens. We didn’t have this happen because our kids had their own cellphones and we communicated with the app’s messenger system. We did lose a few minutes while we learned how to use the phone, but then we were good to go.
Like all game activities with a winner, whoever answered the most questions got a medal. If I’m ever back on one of the Disney ships, it will be my goal to get one of those medals. They looked like great souvenirs.
The rest of the day we ate or watched movies. My husband hadn’t seen Captain Marvel, so we went to that show. My mom wanted to see Aladdin again, and they played it in the big theater. Of course, both shows were packed because everybody on board had nothing much to do.
PACKING AND PREPARATIONS
Since this was our last day on the ship and our bags needed to be outside our room by 10 p.m. in preparation to debark the next day, we needed to use a few moments of our days to pack.
That last day at sea we also received a flyer with instructions on debarkation day and our bag tags. In the terminal, the baggage claim area is split up by Disney character. In our ship, the Ariel tag got taken out of the boat first, followed by Daisy. It looked like you got randomly assigned one of the character tags (they were about 10 or more characters). If you have an early flight or need to catch a bus or shuttle and need the bags right away, you can choose to carry them yourself out of the ship with you. We visited the lobby and they gave us the Ariel tags after we explained about our shuttle’s departure.
So, nothing is set in stone.
On the last day, make sure you return your kids’ magic bands. They are worth around $13 and you can get a refund if you get them back. They will give you a receipt:
Finally, you will get your final account for your review and a special letter explaining how much you will be charged for gratuities with a preassigned amount for each of the crew members who helped you during your stay. You can always go to the front desk and request a change in amounts, etc. They give you personalized envelopes if you want to personally deliver the gratuity. If you are unable to give it to them, they will get them automatically on the last day. Make sure you take care of all of this during your last day at sea.
THE LAST SHOW
The last show was a Disney musical with Disney movie songs playing throughout the show. Peter Pan is the host and as always, it’s impressive what the cruise crew members can do with the space they have. We got to see Ariel, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and more, which was a nice way to say goodbye to the cruise, but getting a lot of Disney!
This was one of the best shows and as I understand, one of the original shows that started the cruise.
THE LAST MEAL
We had our last meal at our favorite restaurant, the Artist Palate.
This time, they had us draw our own character on special paper (that looked like a mat). At the end of dinner, we were treated to a show using our own drawings. The screens around the restaurant played Disney songs with the Disney characters and OUR characters, which moved like real people. Each section of the restaurant had an assigned screen, and your waiter let you know which screen to watch when the show started. If you signed your drawing, then you would be listed in the credits at the end of the show. My son forgot to sign his paper, so there is a blank where his name should have been.
This was by far my favorite restaurant.
Cheers!
