Zelda, Breath of the Wild: A Different Way to Enjoy the Game
I finished Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It was amazing.
When I decided to go against Ganon I had completed about 95% of the side quests, all shrines, about 100 seeds and I could never find the Hylian shield. In no way had I visited every single square inch of the map, but I felt I had done a good job. I played for 160 hours.
Then I decided to start the game over.
This time, I wanted to go where I hadn’t been before. That meant getting all the seed and finding all the treasures I had missed. For my second run, I decided to use the online map.
So, after completing the four shrines in the Great Plateau, I decided I was going to try to get all the seeds and treasures that have been found so far by players and posted on the interactive map.
Since I only had the Great Plateau area open in the map, it was easy to only focus on those seed and chests. It is taking me longer – considering I already know where to go, thanks to the map – but I have been enjoying it a lot and that’s the point of the game, to have fun with it, and I am.
This time around, I am keeping my precious stones (which I sold in the beginning of the game and then needed, like Opal), are upgrading my armor right away (I didn’t understood the armor upgrade importance until later in the game), and are trying to kill all enemies for their goodies (I found a star in a chest I had missed the first time).
Now, about stars… Three have fallen that I could see, but couldn’t reach because I don’t have all the shrines, so I can’t teleport easily. So I can’t get to them on time… but I know I will, so I’m not that worried. Also, now that I see the dragons I know what to do, so in my search for seeds and chests, if I happen to see a dragon I shoot at it. I have managed two scales so far just by passing by. Neat!
From the day I started playing, I have opened the Dueling Peaks Tower, Hateno Tower, Lanayru Tower and Faron Tower maps.
I don’t actually look for shrines in the map. I mostly remember where they are or I look around from high places and spot them. So far I haven’t been looking them up. I know I will at some point, because this second time I want to enjoy the game in a different way.
It’s been fun!
If you’re not playing Breath of the Wild you’re missing out! What are you waiting for?
