Visiting San Diego: San Diego Natural History Museum

Visit San Diego’s Natural History Museum website here.

We visited San Diego during the summer with family and we got to experience 7 of their tourist attractions:

1. San Diego Natural History Museum
2. Sea World
3. USS Midway
4. San Diego Zoo
5. Legoland
6. San Diego Air and Space Museum
7. Museum of Man

Our first stop on our trip was the Natural History Museum.  We went there on Father’s Day and their promotion was all fathers got in for free. We were a party of 10, so we decided to purchase the family membership and use the free passes, together with the free father’s day promo, we ended up paying a a little less, which was great.

Like most of San Diego’s museums, the Natural History Museum is in Balboa Park, in downtown.

A neat thing about this museum is that all 3D showings are free (included with admission), which was very convenient. We entered the showing of Sea Monster, a 25 minute movie about dinosaurs who lived in the oceans that later turned out to be a part of the United States. The kids really enjoyed it.

After that we visited their exhibit “Ultimate Dinosaurs”, the kids enjoyed it because they moved from station to station trying to fill stamps on a treasure hunt paper they handed out at the entrance.

Ultimate Dinosaur Exhibit

Ultimate Dinosaurs was in the lower level, so when we were done we went up to the second floor (Level 2) – we skipped the main floor (Level 1) – which has the store, cafe, ticketing, theater and a few permanent exhibits.

We looked around the fossil and southern California sections. It was interactive and the kids loved looking around and reading what they could. After a while, the younger kids in our party got tired and we left. We didn’t get a change to go back, so I guess the rest of the museum will have to wait for some other time.
cheers!
