Visiting San Diego: Legoland California
We visited San Diego during the summer with family and we got to experience 7 of their tourist attractions:
1. San Diego Natural History Museum
2. Sea World
3. USS Midway
4. San Diego Zoo
5. Legoland
6. San Diego Air and Space Museum
7. Museum of Man
Our son LOVES legos. He is really good at building them, too. Here in the DFW Metroplex we have a Legoland Discovery Center a few minutes away, but let me tell you that a Discovery Center is no where near as impressive as a Legoland Park. Our Legoland (Discovery Center) is small. Sure, it has A/C and a tiny water park, but still small; and to be honest a little bit dirty. Legoland California was gigantic, and the waterparks are huge!
It was a little cool (June) to go to the water park, plus our nephews were to young to go, so we only visited the park. You also have the option of adding the aquarium, but we had already gone to Sea World and the day as short. I do think that spending the night at the hotel would have been a neat experience, and if you decide to visit the park, waterpark and aquarium you could easily use 3 days to see it all.
That wasn’t our plan, unfortunately.
The kids enjoyed the park, but being 8 and 10 years old put them almost out of the range of Legoland. They say the park is intended for a child averaging 6 to 8 years old and they are right. Some rides my 8 year old didn’t want to ride because they were too slow and boring (and this is a kid who still doesn’t like rollercoasters). Something else, some rides require and kid to ride with an adult, so if the kid doesn’t ride the ride, then the adult sits out. That was a bummer. Grandparents who wanted to ride some of the kiddie rides opted to sit out because there weren’t enough kids to allow them to ride.
It was fun, overall, and not that crowded. The longest line we made was of 25 minutes. Again, not bad. We did ride some rollercoasters, even if they were not very impressive, and the Star Wars section was cool for picture time.
I’m glad we got to visit it when we did, but I doubt we’ll ever visit again. The kids are too old.
cheers!
