Visiting New York: The Metropolitan Museum of Art
September 30, 2017
We visited New York City in July 2017. We went there with friends and stayed in a house we rented near Central Park. This is the first time the kids were ever in New York, and so our schedule included the most popular attractions:
1. The Metropolitan Museum of Art
2. The Statue of Liberty
3. The American Museum of Natural History
4. The Guggenheim Museum
5. Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum
6. The Empire State Building
7. Broadway: School of Rock
I just love the Met.
I could go there for days and days and still have things to see and learn. Unfortunately, when visiting New York, there are many other things to do and we can only spend one day at the Met. Not only that, when visiting New York with kids, that day becomes even shorter.
We started with the Ancient Egypt exhibit… we did the same the first time we went, so at the end we ended up not seeing more of the museum, again. The Ancient Egypt exhibit is wonderful, but huge. It takes hours just to just go through that section alone, something we didn’t figure out until it was too late.
Seeing that we still had much more to see after spending a couple of hours in the Ancient Egypt exhibit, we started moving to specific exhibits our party wanted to see. We started with modern art, but looked around several other exhibits on our way there.
By then it was lunch time and the kids were tired. So we saw a little of the upper floor before we decided to call it a day.
I wish we would have seen more. Also, with the kids part of your attention is on them (so they won’t touch anything or disturb other patrons) than actually enjoying the art and learning from it.
I still don’t regret taking them. I’m glad we were able to give them the opportunity to go and experience what looking at great art is with the hope that they will learn to enjoy it like we do.
I would definitely take them again.
cheers!
