Videogame Review: Breath of the Wild DLC1
I waited until November to purchase the Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC and I gotta say, I was a little disappointed for what I got for $20. Back in November, only part 1 had been released and I wasn’t too happy with what was in it.
The following was included in the DLC Part 1:
-Trial of the Sword
-Hero’s Path Mode
-Master Mode
-Travel Medallion
-Armor, armor, amor
Armor, Armor, Armor
In my opinion all of the armor is pretty useless.
The Korok Mask, basically the most useful piece of armor in the DLC. It basically works as a beacon for korok leaves, vibrating whenever you are close. Honestly, I don’t feel like walking around with my mask looking for korok leaves.
The rest of the armor includes Midna’s helmet, Tingle’s outfit and the Phantom armor. All you gotta do to find them if go to the stable where they tell you to go, read the diary and follow the clues. Once you get to that area you use magnesis to find chests containing each item trapped somewhere around.
Travel Medallion
Once you find the medallion it works as a warp point. Again, pretty useless… there are 60 shrines you can teleport to, one more makes absolutely no difference, at least not to me.
Master Mode
In all my years as a Zelda player, I have never attempted master mode. I won’t say that this is something useless, I know a lot of people who like the challenge, this is just not my style. I like playing relaxed enough to know it is unlikely I’ll die but challenging enough to still have fun. Besides, who in their right mind wants to find a Lynel in the Great Plateau?!
Hero’s Path Mode
This ability just lets you see where you’ve been. You can either see it all at one time or sit back and watch the little red line show you your path (which can take ages!). It goes back to 200 hours of gameplay, which in my case is MORE than enough to see all of the places I’ve been. It’s nice and perhaps a little useful, especially if you’d like to visit a place you’ve never been to… perhaps the location of that missing korok leaf?
Trial of the Sword
I decided after trying the Trial of the Sword for the fifth time that I was going to die before completing it. It is 45 levels to get the Master Sword glimmering (at 60 HP) all the time – and not just when guardians are near. It’s an ok reward, but not worth it. You start it in front of the Deku Tree, where you insert the sword back in it’s slit on the ground. You play with no weapons or food of any kind and however many hearts you have when you start, so make sure you have all the hearts you can have. The Trial has three levels – easy, medium, hard – and it gets more difficult as you go along. Just to say, in my first 5 attempts I couldn’t even pass the easy level. I guess I’m not a very good player.
And that’s all that’s included in the first DLC, thank goodness the second one was much, much better!
cheers!
