TV Series Review: The OA
August 24, 2017
We did not, however, start watching it until last week.
The OA is a Netflix series released December of last year. I remember watching the previews around the time we were finishing watching Stranger Things and since we loved that show and The OA was also a Netflix original, it caught our interest.
We did not, however, start watching it until last week.
The series in itself is interesting and engaging. The story is interesting and well developed and the “bad guy” is a real bad guy, who thinks he’s doing good but really being evil all in the name of science.
All the actors do a fantastic job. Most of them were completely unknown to me, except for two: Jason Isaacs, who plays the evil scientist and Phyllis Smith, who is a teacher. The rest are young, but did an excellent job, in my opinion.
At 8 episodes long, the series works as a combination of real-time/backflash storyline which works pretty well.
Everything about it was engaging and well developed, except the ending. There’s all this built up tension and drama and character development to be a little disappointing at the very end. There are a lot of questions unanswered, a lot of injustices not being served. It just left me wanting more… more explanation, more resolution and at least to have the guilty party pay for its crime. None of that happened. Not really.
Now, I read there’s a season 2 coming. Apparently this was meant to be a 2 season series from the beginning. We’ll see. I hope if I dedicate another 8 hours of my life to this, it’s worth it at the end.
cheers!
