TV Series Review: Future Man
January 21, 2018
I saw the preview of this series a while back and were not disappointed when it finally aired.
I knew it was about comic book-like characters and thought my husband would be a little reluctant to watch it with me (he’s had enough of comic book movies, apparently), but he saw the preview and it caught his interest enough to give it a try.
The series is completely over the top! It exaggerated on violence, language, sex and more, in a funny way. There were many times when we just exploded out-loud from laughter. Not only that, it’s filled with 80s and 90s references. Movies like Terminator, Back to the Future, The Last Star Fighter and even Top Gun are referenced in one way or another. It’s fun to identify scenes or dialogues from the movies we watched as a child.
The series is only 13 episodes long, and it is glorious. It does have an ending which ends in a possible part 2. I gotta say it’s the best series both my husband and I (and possibly even my brother, who was visiting for the holidays and got to watch it with us after episode 7), have seen in 2017, so I really hope they renew it.
Josh Hutchinson (of Hunger Games fame; although I also remember him from Zathura and Bridge to Terabithia) stars and produces. He does an excellent job at it and seems to be fearless in what he would do for a character. The other two main characters, Tiger and Wolf, also steal the show in their own unique way, but it’s Wolf who was the best in my opinion.
There is a lot of time traveling, paradoxes and the like and it just gets better an better (like the episode about James Cameron… priceless!)
Highly recommended! It’s definitely for mature audiences, so be ready for over the top comedy.
cheers!
