#TBT Movie Review: Star Wars – Return of the Jedi

Still on our challenge to finish the original trilogy (and Episode VII), we continued our Star Wars journey with Return of the Jedi. I have to say this is my favorite movie of them all (now counting Ep. VII and VIII). The kids also enjoyed this one a lot, especially after the Ewoks appeared.

This movie is basically split in three parts:
-The sequence with Java the Hut
-The sequence in the forest of Endor
-The sequence with the Emperor and Luke in the new Death Star while the rebellion attacks

Since we watched them during school nights, we began with the Java sequence. I have never heard the name Bobba Fett ever spoken during the movies and yet we know about him. The kids knew about him, too and were a little disappointed at his demise. Then our heroes go to the Moon of Endor where they ride the hovering cycles. My son had one of those as a Lego for his birthday and he watched the movie with it in front of him. Here’s a picture, although it’s dark and you may not see it very well (or at all):

Then came the part with the Emperor. That guy really scared my son. He even covered his eyes, and he’s eight! It was scary, but they both knew Darth Vader would help Luke in the end and that helped them relax. I don’t think they knew he dies in the end or how he looked like without his helmet on, but they took it pretty well.

It was finally time to watch Episode VII again.

cheers!

Common Sense Media recommends this movie for children 8 and up.
