#TBT Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes
We watched this movie because my husband and I wanted to watch the new movie “Mr. Holmes”. We started watching it and we thought our kids would want to watch it, too. So we called them into the room and began the movie. It is a slow movie – at least for children – and because of that we stopped and decided to give the kids a little more context, since “Mr. Holmes” starts at the end of Sherlock Holme’s career (when he’s 93).
We looked for the movie Sherlock Holmes on itunes, the one starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law instead of the series starring Benedict Cumberbatch because we thought it would be easier for the kids to follow.
And it was. It was filled with jokes that the kids surprisingly understood and action. We, as always, have to stop and explain about some things about death and sexual situations, but overall, it was a fun movie to watch together.
I know this movie got a lot of hate when it came out, but I really enjoyed it then and I enjoyed it now. Watching Holmes and Watson talk to each other is just priceless (and I thought Jude Law was a great Watson to Downey Jr’s Holmes). Oh, and the kids did recognize Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man; they are beginning to see that the same actor plays different roles which I think it’s cute.
If you missed this movie for some reason and want to see an action movie with a bit of mystery, I would definitely recommend this one. There is a sequel, which I have a feeling we’ll be watching very soon at the request of the children.
cheers!
