Summer 2019 is Here!
Hi, everyone.
Today I decided to write my thoughts about summer, so I created a post out of it.
Today, June 1st summer is here. Finally.
I usually speak with my friends about what we’re doing to entertain the kids now that school has finally come to a close. At the same time, my job turned from teacher-wife/mom-author to mom/wife-author-assistant.
My routine is really different when I’m not teaching and I can’t say enough how much I enjoy summers with my kids. They will be 10 and 12 this year and our activities have been changing depending on their age, of course. Some things that were fun before (like library storytimes) aren’t as much fun now, and the older they get the harder it is to get them out of the house, but since they have no choice, they come anyway.
At the same time, it’s a great opportunity to catch up with my writing and complete other projects I have in my head that I never have time to do when I’m a full-time teacher.
So, here are my plans for this June and July.
AUTHOR PROJECTS
I usually get more writing time during the summer. Not as much as I’d like, but more, nonetheless. During school, I usually work very early in the morning during the weekdays for about 15-20 minutes (like, from 6:10-6:30 a.m.) and then I get about three hours each day on Saturday and Sunday (again, early in the morning while the family’s asleep: 6-9am).
In the summer, I can take advantage of airport waits, plane flights, kid at camp, and of course, the morning. This adds up a bit of time.
My plans are:
– Finish my fourth book in a series’ first draft
– Start self-editing/revising book four
– Plot book five in my series
– Review editor’s notes for book 3 (The Fall of Witchcraft)
– Send short story The Collapse to editor
– Compile books one thru three and the short story into a Box Set
– Release Box Set 1
– Plan a Readfree.ly promo
– Attempt a Freebooksy promo
READER PROJECTS
Lately, I’ve compiled a considerable pile of To-Be-Read books. Next week, I will write a little more in detail about the books. I can tell you I realized I wasn’t spending as much time reading as I used to and there are many stories I’d like to read and not enough time to do it. One of my 2019 New Year’s resolutions is to read a little longer every night (my current goal is at least 30 min), and try to read during the day, too.
For now, let me list my goal of books to read during the summer.
1. Finish Artemis Fowl
2. Serafina and the Twisted Staff
3. The Woman in Cabin 10
4. Cinder
If I have time, then I may get to:
5. Hazel Wood
6. Caraval
We’ll see.
SUMMER MOVIES
Now that the kids are older, we can go watch more movies at the movie theater. Before, we used to take advantage of the $1 showing at the Cinemark because we rarely went to the movie theater. That has changed. In case you’re interested, you can click HERE to find out more.
They offer a movie each week of the summer (for $1, or less if you buy a ticket for all of them). They have a 9:30am showing both Mondays and Wednesdays. In order, the movies they offer are:
Despicable Me 3
Peter Rabbit
Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch
How to Train Your Dragon
Small Foot
Kung-Fu Panda
The LEGO Movie
The SpongeBob Movie
Sherlock Gnomes
Hotel Transylvania 3
*movies we haven’t see in bold
Because of travel and camps, we won’t be able to go see any of them, unfortunately. We do, however, have plans to attend the following showings:
Godzilla: King of Monsters (May 31st)
Dark Phoenix (June 7th)
The Secret Life of Pets 2 (June 7th)
Men in Black: International (June 14th)
Toy Story 4 (June 21st) -> The kids don’t want to see this one… yet.
Spiderman: Far from Home (July 2nd)
The Lion King (July 19th)
Dora and the Lost City of Gold (August 9th)
We’ll be busy
VIDEO GAMES AND CAMPS
There isn’t a lot I can say about videogames except I plan on finishing Witcher. Now, what will I play next? I don’t know? Uncharted, maybe. Or Link’s Awakening on the switch if it’s released on time by some miracle (LOL).
The kids will be going to a few camps during the months of June and July, and that will give me some time for our project.
My Girl Scout is doing the Girl Scout Twilight Camp. Both the kids are going to try tennis for at least a week and they are both going to a school camp organized by the school district. Apart from that, no sleepover camps this year! We are going out of town for four weeks total and next year I start school early, so basically I don’t have any days in August to enjoy.
TpT STORE
Another of my projects this year is to create 3 more products for my Teachers Pay Teachers store (not that it’s important, but it’s here). My store is currently sponsoring my writing career and I have a few people asking me to create more products in certain areas. I will be writing two more fluency pages and a comprehension packet for grades K-2. Fluency pages are my best sellers and the feedback I get is that more are needed. I’ll be busy doing that, too.
The rest of the time I’ll be helping my husband with the business, cooking, cleaning and visiting fun places with the kids.
Can’t wait to start and wish I had more than nine weeks!
What are YOU doing?
cheers!
