Our Visit to the Dallas Zoo
Every year during the first week of summer, we go to the Dallas Zoo.
We live in the Dallas Metroplex, but not in Dallas, so our trip is quite an adventure.
The Zoo opens at 9am and we always plan to be there where it opens because the day can become really hot and we like taking advantage of the cooler early hours. Since we live so far away and we need to take into account the morning traffic of a weekday, we wake up super early (6:30am), pack our lunches and set off to pick up my best friend who has gone with us now for three years.
I don’t think the kids have grown bored with this zoo because they only go there once a year and every year they are one year older, so I imagine whenever we go is a totally different experience for them.
My only complaint in this Zoo is they have this amazing monorail ride in the back of the zoo, which takes you through their African animal exhibitions and… it’s mostly ALWAYS closed.
For all the times we’ve been to this Zoo, we’ve only gotten on this ride once. The rest of the time it’s closed for one reason or another. One year they did announce it was going to be refurbished… but, the rest of the time? It’s always something.
Maybe one year we’ll get to ride again.
We enjoy the rest of the Zoo, regardless. It’s big and filled with trees (shade) and when we’re there is never very full, so we almost have it to ourselves. This year when we were there it was the coolest day in June. It was cloudy all day and it even rained a little at noon. The kids still got to spend a little while getting wet in the small kid’s area. We had lunch, and as we were walking out, it started to rain.
I like this Zoo more than the Fort Worth Zoo. I’ve only been to the Fort Worth Zoo once. It was packed and hot and there wasn’t any shade! I think the Dallas Zoo is much better.
cheers!
