Opinion: Our Experience with MEL Science

From my previous post, you may have learned we tried Kiwicrate.com for about two years. We are now in the process of weaning out of it (we have a few more months left in our pre-paid subscription) and are starting a different subscription: MEL Science.
MEL Science is a monthly delivery website my husband found when our 10 year old daughter started to show an interest in Chemisty. We are both Chemical Engineers, so I guess there’s a reason to her madness.
The first thing you get when you subscribe to MEL Science is the started Kit. Here is ours, although you can see the contents in detail on their webpage:

Even when MEL Science comes with this starter kit, we bought several extra items on amazon.com to make the experience better for our kids.
Here is a list of what we bought on amazon.com:
  • Lab Coat
  • Burner Lamp
  • Beakers
  • Thermometer
  • Stirring Rods

The starter kit comes with two experiments. After that, the monthly subscription comes with a total of 38 experiment sets (including the 2 sets in the started kit). The subscription lasts for one year and a half paying $50 a month.

Here’s my husband’s explanation of the first experiment:

cheers!
