Opinion: My Review of Stitch Fix

I tried Stitch Fix. Someone I know who dresses pretty cute recommended it on Facebook, and I thought I’d give it a try. I spent a while filling all the questions they ask about my style and size and set up a shipment as soon as possible.
Yesterday, I received my first shipment. The box had 5 items, like they said I would get and a card from “my stylist” saying I hadn’t given her my Pinterest information and so she had sent an assortment of styles. To be honest, I am not a fashion person and even when I do have a Pinterest account, it has NOTHING to do with fashion, nor do I plan to use up my time in updating one for the purpose of using Stitch Fix.
So, anyway, the box had 2 dresses, 2 shirts and 1 purse. The purse was a little cute, but it was too heavy, and since my right shoulder hurts occasionally, I can’t carry heavy purses. The dresses were not that cute. In fact, the fabric didn’t look to be worth what the dress was worth. I can go to LOFT and get a dress for that price. The dresses didn’t fit me, anyway. It was strange that both were medium when I had specified on the website my dress size was large. They were too tight and they both had elastic around my waist and that made them uncomfortable.
The shirts were pretty ok. One had a color I don’t really have and kept it. The other one was a sleeveless shirt that was light and not see-through. If I had seen them at a store, I would have bought them, but if I had seen they cost $50-$60, I would NOT. This is what they cost. I know one of the goals of Stitch Fix is that you don’t have to go around shopping, but come on… These items would not be $50-$60 anywhere.
Here’s what I kept:
I decided to cancel my subscription after this. I don’t think this is for me. I rather take some time three or four times a year to go shopping. I think I can get better things on my own even if it takes me a few hours of my time. Maybe I’m too cheap. I don’t know.
I returned the items I didn’t want dropping them up at the post office and then went to the website to let them know about my items and then try to cancel the service. I looked and looked around, but could not find anywhere where I could cancel the service (as in, cancel my account), so I had to email customer service… but again, not having a clear way to cancel an account? That doesn’t speak well of the company to me.
Again, maybe it’s just me. I have read a lot of blogs from people who love it.
cheers!
