Movie Review #TBT: Black Stallion

I remembered the Black Stallion fondly, which is why I wanted the kids to watch it. The parts I remembered the scenes at the island, but I knew that eventually there would be a race, and I thought the kids would enjoy that, too.
The movie is rated G, which was a pleasant surprise since most 80s movies rated PG are what we now know as PG-13 (right?). The kids were interested the entire movie and the only thing that seemed to bother my son, or at least he found it strange, was that the movie has very little dialogue. The characters spend a good part of the movie thinking or staring at each other – and this is apart from the island scene which is completely devoid of words because there is no one to talk to.
It was still well pace for the kids and this possibly made everything that was happening very clear to them. As I now watched it as an adult, I did find some odd scenes, or “missing” scenes to explain the unexplained, but I enjoyed it just like I had when I was eight.
Highly recommended!
Common Sense Media recommends this movie for children 8 and up.
