Movie Review: Score

I have always been proud in my knowledge of soundtracks. Growing up my parents only played classical music at home (and the Beatles because dad loves the Beatles). I love classical music. Then can John Williams. My brother and I would hum John Williams music in the car (this is just us, not playing on the radio or anything). My mom would always marvel at our ability to reproduce this music without listening to it. So there, pride.

Then more came. My second favorite composer became Danny Elfman. And then Hans Zimmer. Not to mention a few others whose music had a place in my heart… but nothing like the big three.

My husband didn’t know as much as I did about classical music and soundtracks, but he was a fast learner. Not only that, he now loves this kind of music and I couldn’t be happier! Music in movies has always been something to look forward when we watch movies. We point and gasp when we see a composer we know in the credits of a movie (we’re dorks, I know) and then we will find the music in iTunes if we liked it.

When our children were born we surrounded them with this music, too (until peer pressure forced them to ask us about pop music, and so we presented them with that, too, sigh). They still love the big three composers we love. When this documentary, “Score”, came out, we just had to watch it together.

AND IT IS AMAZING!

It explains many things, including big movements that began to change movie music forever. Of course, the big three had their own little moment, because… well, they are the big three.

This documentary was perfect and it was a perfect family movie night, too! I highly recommend you watch it. If you are not into movie music, you may find a new hobby… or maybe you already have your favorites. Either way, it’s worth taking a couple of hours from your life to watch it.

cheers!
