Movie Review: I Kill Giants

We ordered pizza and thought we should go to the TV room together to enjoy it. We turned on the AppleTV and started browsing. This movie caught our eye. It has a great poster, don’t you agree? The preview was good and the fact that it says “Harry Potter” at the top let us know we’d found a winner.
The movie was well made. The giant effects were great, too, but the movie wasn’t at all what we were expecting.
It was a total drama. It was confusing – and not only to the kids – and even when it was well made, it didn’t make us feel like we were rooting for the main character.
For a while you wonder if the giants are real or not, and then you find out. And then come the water works.
Barbara, the girl in the poster, is not very nice to begin with. She doesn’t have any friends, and the one she finds doesn’t last long. More than anything, everyone feels sorry for her. Zoe Saldana is in this movie as the school’s counselor. Everybody is trying to help this girl (who is not so young) into facing her demons (er, giants), and turning into a normal human being. One who’s actually nice.
My kids ended up confused, we had to talk to them a lot about what had actually happened and I was a mess of tears.
Not the best choice of movie for pizza night. I don’t really recommend it unless you want to see someone who is in the brink of losing it as a functional person.
cheers!
