Movie Review: Colossal
October 24, 2017
We watched this movie because the trailer looked interesting, it said it was a comedy and it starred Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis and Dan Stevens.
The premise (from the trailer) is that, somehow, a monster shows up in Seoul, North Korea and whatever a girl (Hathaway) does in real life, the monster copies on the other side of the planet.
It was a quirky, weird, out-of-the-box, interesting movie, to say the least… what it wasn’t, was a comedy.
There is a twist in the middle of the movie which causes a big problem for our main character and the way she decides to solve the problem is very ingenious. We really liked the ending. Through the movie, though, the story treats its characters with a lot of cliches from the modern world and the protagonist is, until the end of the movie, pretty much unlikable (a woman who parties and drinks until she looses consciousness and has been without a job for a year and she keeps getting drunk even when she causes others problems).
It’s a different movie, but I think it was worth watching it.
cheers!
