Movie Review: Ant Man and the Wasp

We went to see Ant Man and the Wasp with friends just after watching the first Ant Man movie again so the events would be fresh in our minds.

The first Ant Man movie is very funny, at least to me. I love Paul Rudd in it. I love how he has to struggle to become a hero and at the end he battles the supervillain.

I get the idea that they tried to do a bit of the same in the second movie, unfortunately, something were so different it was difficult to get the freshness of the first.

The movie starts explaining how Ant Man is basically, well, no longer Ant Man. Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is in house arrest, and had been for the last two years, because he helped Captain America in the Civil War movie.

For two years he’s done nothing. Just try to pass the time in a house, that I didn’t exactly understand where it had come from, and trying to spend time with his daughter. On the other hand, Dr. Pym and Hope Van Dyne are fugitives and can’t be found, so Scott Lang has not spoken to them in all that time.

This movie, to my understanding, happens before the events of Infinity Wars, although the after-credit scenes happens during Infinity Wars.

Through most of the movie, Scott breaks the law again as he is taken (without his consent, I might add), out of the house by Hope, and thus, in danger of reaching the last 24 hours in the house before his house arrest is over because he has a dream about her mom (that’s mean, isn’t it? Hope puts Scott’s future in danger just because he had a dream? She couldn’t wait 24 hours – apparently not). The whole time Scott is not only mistreated by Hope and her dad, but also stressed out that he has done his sentence and is so close to freedom and he’s been kidnapped by these people.

Anyway, the movie has that situation that never really left me alone. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Apart from that, there really isn’t a supervillain to fight. There is no one ultimately evil like the first movie. Instead, we are introduced to people who do the things they do for noble reasons who seem like the villains at first. Regardless, there is still a lot of action, some funny parts and overall I had a good time with the movie.

I still recommend you don’t miss it. It’s an action movie that you will enjoy.

cheers!
