Graphic Novel Review: Saga Vol. 7

It’s been a while since I read Saga. It’s still an excellent comic book. I check the volumes out from the public library and the reason why I hadn’t read them in a while was that they didn’t have the new ones. Well, this time they did and I quickly grabbed volume 7.

The entirety of these issues has our two rebels living on a planet (I think it’s a planet), Phang.

If you haven’t read the series, this comic book is about an intergalactic war between two planets. One relies mostly on technology and the other on magic. The two of them have been fighting for many, many years. I don’t think the young soldiers even understand why they are supposed to hate the other race.

So, a little like Romeo and Juliet, a girl from one planet falls in love with a guy from the other planet. They are both soldiers, but that doesn’t stop them. Then, the unexpected happens: they procreate. The entire story is told as memories of her.

The best thing I like about this series is how the unexpected happens. You may think you know where things are going, but they don’t. Bad guys turn good, good guys turn bad. Main characters are suddenly killed (and trust me, I couldn’t believe when they killed…). You never know.

The art is fantastic, too. It all comes together.

I know they now have volume 8 and 9 available at the library, so I’m going to leave you to go put it on hold.

Cheers!
