Decorating Idea: Our Daughter’s Room

My daughter had been wanting her room decorated for a while, although she kept changing her mind on the theme. At some point she requested butterflies, then she wanted a space/plants theme – which was difficult, but possible. At some point my husband found a very expensive bed cover online with the planets on them, and we probably would have bought it except the idea of painting the room all black wasn’t very appealing. Besides, if we ever sell the house taking that black paint off would probably be a nightmare.
So, she decided her theme would be teal (as in the color), not caring about any animal, plant or planet. As long as we painted the wall teal, she would be happy.
At the end we decided to only pain two walls with this teal color.
The picture below shows one of the walls, the one with her bed. We got the bed and nightstand at IKEA and since they’re white, the teal color looks pretty nice.
Then we visited Hobby Lobby for decorating ideas. We bought the letters for her name on the wall, a few boards, frames and decorating items. All teal.
We also visited Pottery Barn Kids, where the very nice lady who helped us went to see what she had left in storage from past seasons. We ended up with that pillow for the bed, the rug and a cute little chevron basket for the bookcase. The bookcase we bought through potterybarnkids.com at full price. It was worth it, though.
On the wall in front of the bed we got a nice hanger for her art at IKEA. Coincidentally we also found teal clothespins at IKEA. Pure luck, really. Then the blackboard below that we got at Hobby Lobby.
Between these two walls we put the bookshelf, with those cute teal pompoms we found at Hobby Lobby. You won’t believe this, but Potter Barn Kids didn’t have any cute teal curtains, but when the lady went back to see what she had from last season she found that excellent teal curtain you see on the picture. There are also teal magazine holders on the bottom of the bookshelf. Yep, IKEA had teal magazine holders. Who knew.
The last wall has her desk – IKEA desk, with a pottery barn white chair and a couple of wood frames with motivational messages we found at Hobby  Lobby. Sorry, I could never get a picture because that desk is always sooo messy.
Our daughter fell in love with her room. It’s cozy and welcoming. She loves relaxing with a book on her bed with that big pillow. I think it was a complete success!
cheers!
