Book Review: Prodigy
Prodigy is book two of the Legend series by Marie Lu.
I began reading this series after a friend really recommended it. Book one was amazing. One of those you can’t stop reading. Book two, while also very good and filled with unexpected turns, wasn’t as exciting as one. Things turn darker, I suppose, especially at the end.
This world is set in a dystopian future, where part of the east coast has sunk into the ocean and those states have been separated from the rest of the country, which is no longer the United States, but the Republic. The Republic is led by a dictator called the Elector, who keeps the Republic in control by lying to them and creating viruses to help control the lower sectors.
In book one, June, one of the Republic’s best officers, joins Day, the Republic’s number one rebel, as she finds out the Republic is not what she thought it was. Not only that, they fall in love even when they barely know each other and are from totally different worlds.
In book two, their adventures continue, but this time, we are introduced to a new Elector, a young man named Anden, who seems to be a force of good (and the third member to create a love triangle of sorts, I believe).
Prodigy takes us deeper into this post-apocalyptic world as we keep following the fates of June, Day – and now Anden. It was still a fun read, but it was missing the freshness of the relationship between June and Day. Still, I give it five stars because it was still wonderfully written and a lot of fun.
cheers!
