Book Review: In a Dark Dark Wood

My husband picked this book for me one day we visited Barnes and Noble and I was looking for a good mystery book. I read Gone Girl and LOVED IT and then I read Girl on the Train and liked it, too. He told me the book was advertised as being in the same league as the two other books, so I gave it a try.
I must confess I do not think it’s in the same league as Gone Girl or Girl on the Train. At least, that’s my opinion.
The book is well written. It’s very friendly and it flows. Unfortunately, nothing really interesting happens for most of the book. Since the beginning the author (Ruth Ware) lets you know that there is something definitely going to happen at some point in the story, but since nothing really important happens while this even will happen, it’s strange how you are interested and at the same time… well, not.
At the end, once the reveal comes (which I did predict it fairly early in the book, especially because things begin to happen where it was easy to imagine where the story is going with it), it does get pretty terrifying mostly because people like the “villain” actually do exist.
I personally know one such person. This person didn’t get as far as the “villain” in real life, but it wasn’t hard to imagine that it could happen. I can’t say any more than that because I would be revealing more of the story.
It was a good book, overall. Although, I think I’m going to go find one of the Agatha Christie books I haven’t read yet to get what I’m really looking for.
cheers!
