Book Review: Becoming
What can I say, I had to read her book.
Here is a woman who I admired who wrote about her life, I couldn’t refuse.
I considered buying the book during several of my trips to Barnes and Noble, but I never did. Finally, I decided to get the audiobook and listen to it during my commute. I’d never really listened to a full-length book before, but I was willing to try after having listened to several podcasts.
The book is read by the author herself. I think Michelle Obama has a good reading voice. I would even listen to her read other books, to tell the truth. I like her. I liked her personality as she read the events of her life and how she began in a world much different from the one she is now.
She begins by narrating her childhood from the first moment she remembers and then goes to explain how one thing led to another until he met Barack Obama. This is a strong woman who is hard-working, intelligent, and a fighter. I related to her in that I am also someone who has the need to do things right, the way they are supposed to be, and my husband is the one who brings chaos into my life… a little bit like the way Mr. Obama did.
It was interesting to hear how her life begins to change after he meets the former President, including her every thought on the matter, good and bad.
I really enjoyed this story. My daughter, who is twelve years old, sometimes listened to excerpts whenever she rode with me in the car when I took her to her afterschool classes, and she became really interested to hear more.
I would definitely recommend this book. It’s engaging and interesting and it gives a peek at what it was like to be First Lady of the United States.
Cheers!
