August 2020 News
This month has been crazy busy… and maybe not in a good way.
As much as I wish to be a full time artist, I still have to pay the bills. Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching. I love being in front of those 5 year old every year and teaching them to read and write, add and subtract. I really think I make a difference in the world through those kids.
But since March, my profession has changed. First it became virtual where we needed to create activities for students to do at home. Being a bilingual teacher, that came with another set of challenges. But we rose through them and were successful thanks to our hard work.
No we face the challenge of a different online learning mixed with in person learning amidst a pandemic.
Some us of us became virtual and some of us will receive students whenever schools open.
This time, we need to prepare for live sessions AND online activities at the same time. Believe me. It is a lot of work.
I honestly haven’t touched my writing or my illustrating since August 3rd, which is when I reported to work.
I spend my weekends preparing video lessons I didn’t have time to prepare during the week. In a bilingual classroom, this means a bit more work, since most resources aren’t in Spanish and we must create them from scratch.
But we will rise through it again. We must.
School will start in person in next week, but I don’t know how long that will last.
I stopped writing the sixth and final book of my urban fantasy series, NAVSA.
I stopped illustrating my next Moose and Cow children’s book.
I’m still waiting for the proofreader to return book 3 to be able to release the new edition.
I’m using part of my weekend to create videos for my youtube channel. Creating resources in Spanish for parents and trying to create a series of phonics lessons for kids.
It’s hard work but I think it’ll pay in the end.
My youtube channel is here.
I don’t watch much TV now. I’m too busy. I started watching Breaking Bad in the summer, but I haven’t finished it. Yesterday my husband and I started watching ABC Murders, but I fell asleep half-way through it. And I can’t stay awake enough to continue reading Stephen King’s The Institute.
I don’t know how long this will last. I hope I’ll be able to continue taking care of myself, too.
Now I must stop writing this and get back to making instructional videos.
Take care.
